TOUR CODE SAS 042 - 8 DAYS MACHAME DOWN MWEKA
Kilimanjaro is a huge snow capped summit dome rising high above the surrrounding savannah.It is one of Africas all time classic images at 5896m(19.344ft).Kilimanjaro is the highest volcanic mountain in Africa and one of the highest volcanoes in the world.With the right preparation ,you can walk all the way to the summit without the need of ropes or technical climbing experience.
Day 1: Nairobi-Moshi
Leave Nairobi at 7.30 a.m by shuttle to Moshi, arriving at 4.00 p.m Dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Machame Gate -Machame Hut
Drive to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate passing through the Machame Village to Machame Gate and start ascending through the rain forest, 4-5 hrs walk. Dinner and overnight at Machame Hut,3000m.

Day 3: Machame Hut - Shira Hut
After breakfast, leave the glades of the rainforest and continue on ascending path, crossing the little valley, walking along a steepy rocky ridge,covered with heather ,until the ridge ends.Turn west to river gorge to Shira Hut at 3840 m. Dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Shira Hut - Barranco Hut
After breakfast proceed to the east passing the junction towards the Kibo peak. As you continue, the direction changes to South-East, taking you 5-7 hours to cover 10 kilometres. Dinner and overnight at Barranco Hut.

Day 5: Barranco Hut - Barafu Hut
From Barranco a steep rocky climb, Barranco walls, then up and down until you come to Karanga valley and then to Barafu hute (4600 metres).

Day 6: Barafu Hut - Uhuru peak - Mweka Hut
After early tea and and biscuits, continue to ascend to Stella point (5745 metres) or your way to the summit i.e. Uhuru peak at 5895 metres, the highest point in Africa. Dont forget we normally start at 11.30 p.m. arriving in the morning for the sunrise. Descend to Mweka Hut 3100 metres, a 7-8 hours walk. Dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Mweka Hut - Moshi
After early breakfat descend down to Mweka gate and return back to Moshi, for dinner and overnight.

Day 8: Departure
Early breakfast and departure to Nairobi arriving in the afternoon.
