TOUR CODE SAS 23 - 10 DAYS - L. TURKANA VIA SWEETWATERS/SAMBURU/MARSABIT/
CHALBI DESERT/L. BARINGO

This is a rugged 1,800 kilometre expedition in a 4 wheel drive vehicle. It takes you up into the heart of the Northern Frontier district . You will see beautiful mountain forest surrounded by dusty deserts.

Day 1:   Nairobi - Samburu

Depart Nairobi in the morning and proceed to Mt. Kenya region. Afternoon game drive at Sweetwaters game reserve to see wildlife and chimps. Spend the night at the Mountain Rock Campsite.

Day 2:   Mt. Kenya - Samburu

Depart in the morning for Samburu Game Reserve in time for an afternoon game drive in the park in search of the rare northern Kenya animal species. Dinner and overnight in your camp.

Day 3:   Samburu - Marsabit

Head north to Marsabit, an extinct volcano heavily forested on its slopes. Visit the lodge inside the park weather permitting. Dinner and overnight in your camp.

Day 4:   Marsabit - Kalacha

Pass through another volcanic crater on your to Kalacha settlement on the edge of the Chalbi desert for dinner and overnight.

Day 5:   Kalacha - L. Turkana

Leave early in the morning crossing the Chalbi desert. Arrive in your camp outside Loiyangalani soon after lunch. Afternoon at leisure. Dinner and overnight in your camp.

Day 6:   L. Turkana

Full day in L. Turkana. Optional visit to a settlement or a Manyatta for traditional dances.

Day 7:  L. Turkana - Tuum Camel Safari

Departing L. Turkana vis the rocky road out of the Rift Valley we head south to Tuum, situated on the west of Mt. Nyiro. This is a very scenic but rough drive. From Tuum you have the chance to walk with the camels and Samburu guides for a couple of hours to the hills of Mt. Nyiro where you will fly camp together with the guides and camels.

Day 8:  L. Turkana - Maralal

Each morning walk for a couple of hours to meet with your drifer guide and vehicle then continue on the rough journey to Maralal for dinner and overnight.

Day 9:   Maralal - L. Baringo

Heading south we visit L. Baringo where we overnight in a campsite and enjoy the lake atmosphere. Overnight in your camp.

Day 10:  L. Baringo - Nairobi

Morning boat ride and drive back to Nairobi where you arrive in the afternoon.
